The outsiders in this book are mainly the non white people. The African Americans and Mexicans are a race that is looked upon as a not a smart race and the African Americans are only looked on as being able to play football. Today is not nearly as racist but there are stereo types that all black people should be good at football as well.

The Book
I think that this is a good book, but i do think that people that have never played football or dont enjoy football would find the book very boring. It gives alot of info on the town and the players parents and it becomes very boring after awhile, but the author dows a great job of as soon as you want to just put the book down he throws in another practice and game is does a great job of describing the game in great detail.
Outside connections
The outside connections that I have made with this book is that I find that I connect well with the players and their feelings that they have during the game, with the total hatred that you can feel during the game as soon as you can se your oppeont, but then you dont hate them as soon as you beat them. I like how detailed the author gets about the players feelings before the game and how they like the other people but not talkin to them to close to the game. The book is very descripted of the players and is almost to much background info on the town.

football to football
i relate well to this book because i understand how to players feel before and during game. My senior year is coming up and reading this book just pumps me about my own season. The book can be boring to people who don’t play football because it talks a lot about the feelings and emotions on and off the field. The book also talks about the history before the town becomes segregated and it’s racist board members. I would love to go to this school because the only thing that the board members and town really care about it the success of their football team. That is a great thing for the town because it gives the people an outlet from their own life’s and problems but it is also a bad thing because the board of directors is more worried about winning a state championship than it is about their graduation rate. Football can be a great thing for players, coaches, and fans unless taken to far, as I think the high school and town have.

Why I picked it?!?!?!?
This book is about a little town down in southern Texas that lives and dies with their football team. The town is not in great shape, and the whole town turns out on friday nights to watch the team and escape from their own personal problems. The book is written through the eyes of the author, as he moved down to the town and lives and dies like a fan through Permian football. He talks about each player, and there pre-game rituals, which I enjoy reading about because I play, and I find it interesting which player use a similiar routine. I think the book is going to be enjoyable and I look forward to reading it.
